I hinted at updates coming to the RSSmeme leaderboard yesterday and this morning I’ve implemented them. The changes are subtle but will result in much more exciting and relevant information.
A complete reset
Yes; the counters have been reset! And they will continue to reset every month at the first of the month. This gives everyone, regardless of when you start using Google Reader and RSSmeme or when you start blogging, a chance at making the leaderboard.
Based on shares; not stories
This subtle change will, in my opinion, have a large impact on the leaderboard. It used to base the counters for authors, sources, and tags on how many stories are in the database; now it is based on how many shares. So before the leaderboard was really determining how prolific an author/source/tag is but now it is tracking how popular they are. I should have done this from the get go; but better late than never!
