Being Social Post College

In college it’s easy to make friends.  Everyone was extremely friendly and easy to talk to during freshman year because we were all in the same new, confusing situation.  Now that I’ve lived in a new city for nearly 2 months I realize that getting out and meeting people isn’t as easy.  I have Megen and Loki (and that’s all I really need) but it’ll be good for me to get out.

What’s one to do?  Well I put myself out there on Meetup.   I’ve signed up for local groups in Rochester interested in Python, photography, and dogs.  I’ll (hopefully) be able to meet fellow programmers and photographers.  Loki will make her own friends too.

I also found out about BarCamp, which is basically an ad hoc geek fest  Everyone agrees to gather at some place on some day.  A blank schedule is drawn on a white board and people begin filling it up with ideas for talks.  People present projects, ask for help, and just geek out.  Looks like there have been 2 in Rochester so far and a third is planned for September/October.

Come across my blog and live in the Rochester area?  Let me know!
